1: People
Arguably your most important asset, you should consider whether you are making the best use of your employees; do they feel that they are valued, well paid and working under good conditions?
Investing time to review employee performance should both make your staff feel valued and involved, and also enable you to be sure that they are correctly deployed, competent, and committed. Additionally, a compensation and benefits assessment will ensure your staff are being correctly remunerated.
You should consider a programme of benchmarking, psychometric testing, personal development, mentoring, and competence based analysis.
2: Finances
You may have vast amounts of financial data, generated from every department of your business, but are you making the best use of that data? Implementing a review of your financial systems and analysis could transform how you view your business, and allow you to make confident predictions and proposals for the future.
If you are in the process of integrating businesses, are you confident that your financial procedures are robust enough to ensure that the integration is cost efficient and seamless? Perhaps consider bringing in a specialist to oversee the integration, rather than attempting to fix problems later which is at worst disastrous and at best very expensive.
3: Supply Chain
Is your supply chain well oiled and smooth running? An efficent, waste free and responsive supply chain is key to a business' ability to adapt to uncertain markets and cope with an economic downturn.
By reviewing procurement, warehousing and distribution, you can identify any inefficiencies which are storing up problems for the future. Are you procuring from the right place, for the right price and at the right time? Is your supply chain integrating data quickly from sales & marketing and responding quickly to the changing demands of customers, ensuring that your warehouses aren't full of unsaleable products?
4: Production
Whether your business manufactures goods or delivers a service, the process by which an order / product, moves from generation to delivery is vital to ensuring that your business meets customer expections.
If your customer service department is reporting poor customer satisfaction, then it may well be down to a number of issues within the production process.
We recommend a root and branch review of your production / manufacturing processes to identify problem areas; this will then enable you to take specific measures to improve methods, extract waste and introduce new, better procedures.
You may be amazed at how simple changes in the production process have massive impact across the business.
5: Compliance
We don't need to tell you how much legislation now governs business practices in Europe and the US, nor how much pressure there is to be keep up with new regulations and changes to existing laws to make sure your business remains compliant.
However, are you confident that your business is fully compliant with the lastest requirements for both industry standards and government legislation? It can seem a distraction from the task of managing a successful business, but the penalties for non-compliance are potentially ruinous so it pays to be up to date.
By conducting regular reviews of your polices such as; health & safety, human rights, discrimination, diversity or TUPE, you can be confident that you are operating within the law and creating the best environment for your employees.
There are regulatory experts who specialise in conducting such reviews and implementations, and their insight can be invaluable in protecting your business from non-compliance.
